Bundesliga bargains - the best deals on German football shirts
The Bundesliga is back. So, we’re running through the best shirt deals you can find before everything kicks-off again.
That’s right folks, football is coming home again. At least if you live in Germany.
The Bundesliga is set to kick-off again tomorrow afternoon, with a glorious all-you-can-eat buffet of matches taking place across the entire weekend. For us football-starved fanatics, this is our chance to scratch an itch we’ve had for nearly 2 full months now, and fans all over the world will be tuning in to watch Dortmund, Freiburg and just about anyone else they can find a stream for.
In fact, many of us will be adopting a “second team” while we wait for the action to return in our own countries. You’ve probably already seen all kinds of graphs and guides on how to choose a team, while even a few clubs (looking at you, Newcastle and Sunderland) have already made it clear where their allegiances lie. Good luck spelling “Monchengladbach”.
No matter who you’re following, this is literally the perfect excuse to bag yourself some new Bundesliga kits. I’ve spent hours - seriously, I’m knackered - searching out the very best shirt deal for every single club, so that you can show your support without having to really break the bank…
1. FC Augsburg - 2016/17 Goalkeeper Shirt
It probably won’t surprise you to learn it’s pretty slim-pickings for Augsburg fans. The best deal out there is on this rather colourful goalkeeper shirt from the 2016/17 season. I won’t lie to you, it’s not the most exciting shirt I’ve ever seen, and I can only seem to find this in a small size. But hey, it’s better than nothing, right?
2. Bayer Leverkusen - 2013/14 Away Shirt
Sizes: S, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL
This isn’t a bad deal at all. There’s nothing really spectacular about the shirt, but it’s a decent adidas away strip which was worn by Heung-Min Son, Emre Can and Julian Brandt. Man, Leverkusen have had some cracking players down the years.
3. Bayern Munich - 2019/20 Home Shirt
Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL
The new Bayern Munich home shirt for less than £30? Yeah, I’ll cop. Plenty of sizes available and this is a steal regardless of whether they’re your chosen German team.
4. Borussia Dortmund - 2015/16 Home Shirt
Sizes: XL, 2XL
Sadly, there are only a few sizes available, but this yellow and black beauty from Borussia Dortmund is a fantastic deal at just 20 quid. This was the shirt worn during Thomas Tuchel’s debut season in charge, and it’s not too shabby at all.
5. Borussia Monchengladbach - 2018/19 Home Shirt
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL
It might be an absolute nightmare to spell, but those supporting Borussia Monchengladbach can at least bag themselves a very tidy deal. They recently moved away from the yellow “Postbank” sponsor, but this will always be the traditional ‘gladbach look.
6. Eintracht Frankfurt - 1994/95 Score Draw Shirt
Sizes: S, XL, 2XL
Okay, okay - this is just a Score Draw shirt. It’ll never be as satisfying as getting hold of the real thing, but this a much more affordable version of the classic 94/95 design. Although it’s not really one for the collectors, this is a great choice for those hoping to watch Frankfurt on the telly.
7. Fortuna Dusseldorf- 2013/14 Home Shirt
This is a brand-new player-issue football shirt for just 13 quid. It’s only available in an XL, but it’s a terrific bargain if you’re the right size. I just hope you like long sleeves.
8. SC Freiburg - 2018/19 Home Shirt
Sizes: XS, S
This is a sponsorless version of SC Freiburg’s 2018/19 home shirt - which is a bit of a shame, because their sponsor is one of the most terrifically German things you’ll ever see. They’re arguably one of the most likeable teams in Europe, though, and this is the best deal if you’ve adopted them as your second team.
9. Hertha BSC - 2019/20 Away Shirt
Sizes: S, M
It’s certainly not the cheapest Bundesliga option, but Hertha Berlin shirts are surprisingly hard to get hold of right now. This tidy little number at just over 35 quid is probably the best option, coming complete with that very striking TEDi sponsor.
10. TSG Hoffenheim - 2018/19 Home Shirt
Sizes: 2XL, 3XL, 4XL
Don’t be a sap. This Hoffenheim home shirt is a gem for just £17.99, although it’s only available in larger sizes at the moment.
11. 1.FC Koln - 2018-20 Third Shirt
Okay, this is a bit more expensive than everything else on this list, but you’ve gotta admit the design is pretty damn cool. It’s definitely worth paying for in my book - particularly if you’re a Sunderland fan, who have apparently adopted Koln and plan to cheer them on for the rest of the season.
12. RB Leipzig - 2017/18 Home Shirt
Sizes: L, XL, 2XL
Say what you will about the infamous Red Bull kits, they never fail to grab the attention. This particular home shirt features a rather lovely sleeve pattern, and for £24.99 looks incredibly smart indeed.
13. Mainz 05 - 2015/16 Home Shirt
If you plan on supporting Mainz, then I can only hope that you’re also an XL. This sponsorless home shirt is a bargain at just £14.99, and also features their pretty awesome crest.
14. SC Paderborn - 2005/06 Home Shirt
Sorry, Paderborn fans - all I could really find was this match-worn shirt from 2005/06, which makes you’re gonna have to fork out to get hold of it. I guess it’s harder to sell shirts when you’re bottom of the Bundesliga.
15. Schalke 04 - 2019/20 Away Shirt
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL
For me, this is one of the most elegant shirts of the season. All of this year’s Schalke kits are pretty damn good, but this away strip is too tempting to turn down at just under 30 quid. Umbro’s sensational sleeve cuffs strike again. Oh, you can also bag the home shirt for the same price.
16. Union Berlin - 2017/18 Home Shirt
Sizes: S, XL
You just can’t beat rooting for the underdog - or an incredibly German sponsor. I doubt you have many Union Berlin kits in your collection, so this is a great chance to get hold of something different.
17. Werder Bremen - 2018/19 Away Shirt
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL
Speaking of very German sponsors, here’s a pretty cool Werder Bremen kit sponsored by Wiesenhof.
18. VFL Wolfsburg - 2016/17 Home
Sizes: S, 2XL
There have been some terrific Wolfsburg kits in recent years, but they’re proving frustratingly hard to get hold of. This effort from 2016/17 is the best deal I could find from reputable online retailers.
