Could this be what the trainer releases of the future look like?
The new ‘Ivory Snake’ Air Force 1s could be giving us a glimpse of things to come.
A remake of the 1996 fan-favourite ‘Ivory Snake’ Air Force 1s dropped yesterday, and they are looking so good. Originally released exclusively in Asia, they are completely white save for the eye-catching snakeskin design covering the famous swoosh. They are a little pricey for a pair of Air Force 1s at £115 but here's the interesting part - they come WITH a pair of matching socks.
This is an unusual but welcome move, and makes the shoes instantly summer-ready as the socks make them look amazing with shorts; this really brings a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘ready-to-wear’ that is so often thrown about the fashion industry nowadays. It also prompts the thought, could we see more of this in the future? Trainer Collectors are demanding more and more from their purchases, which has been evidenced by the increase in apparel lines, lookbooks and art cards that come alongside a lot of big releases these days - because everyone wants that ‘unique’ piece of memorabilia to add to their prized collection.
This is similar to the way that it has become commonplace for a Video Game to come with an abundance of ‘loot’ which aficionados appreciate and enjoy, as opposed to just buying the disc and that being that.
Trainers coming with matching socks would provide a massive incentive to potential customers, creating a more wholesome and rounded overall consumer experience, and at a relatively small cost to the brand too. Add in the fact that these socks would only be available alongside a purchase of the trainer, and suddenly you have created a hyped item that is both rare and revered. It seems like a no-brainer, surely?
