Marseille Unleash Sea-Inspired 2018/19 Kits
Following an explosive launch video, Puma have landed in Marseille with an incredible bang.
What do you get when you cross Diego Maradona with Mad Max? That’s right- you get one hell of a promo vid.
The 2018/19 season marks the beginning of Marseille’s partnership with Puma, following the announcement back in March that they’d be replacing adidas. Well, the German brand have wasted no time at all in making their mark on the Ligue 1 giants, because their new football kits have caused an incredible splash already.
Released earlier this month, the 2018/19 Marseille kits were unleashed amidst a whirlwind of dramatic music, epic scenery and inspiring messages. The Puma promo came complete with Mad Max-inspired action and costumes, while a sea-faring Diego Maradona stole the show in his little camouflage jacket.
In short, it’s just as baffling as you’d expect. And yes, we absolutely loved it.
If you’re able to ignore the fantastic cinematography and Maradona’s crazy cameo (which is no easy feat), then you’ll notice that Puma have put together a set of very smart football kits indeed. Kicking off their new partnership in style, we can’t help but feel this could be the start of something really special for Marseille.
The new home kit features the customary white and blue colourway which has become synonymous with Les Phoceens over the years. As the only Ligue 1 side to ever win the Champions League, Marseille boast one of the richest histories in French football, so it’s great to see Puma are sticking to the traditions of the club.
However, the golden Puma logo on the chest brings a certain freshness and uniqueness to this particular Marseille kit, which is completed by white shorts and socks. It’s nothing less than the clean, polished look we’ve come to expect from the Olympians in recent years, and there’s little wonder as to why it’s proven so popular across the city.
All the new kits have drawn inspiration from the seas around Marseille, with the sleeves of the home strip featuring a distinctive pattern upon a sea-blue colour. As for the away kit, this incorporates a darker colourway alongside the same shades of sea-blue in the detailing, while a wave-like zig-zag pattern sits subtly on the front of the shirt.
The 2018/19 third kit goes all-out with this sea-blue theme and uses it as the main colourway for the design. Featuring the same distinct heather pattern, this is essentially a football kit based around the sleeves of the new home shirt. And it works.
