New Balance unleash the new Liverpool Home Kit
Liverpool launch their 2018/19 home kit, a gorgeous ‘Red Pepper’ design from New Balance.
Over the last 25 years or so, three simple words have been continuously ringing around Merseyside in some kind of never-ending echo: “maybe next year.”
Ever since the dawn of the Premier League era, Liverpool have rarely looked like clinching the title, but regularly appear to be on the cusp of real greatness. Legendary sides that included the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Michael Owen looked just a couple of signings away from mounting a serious title challenge.
But those signings never materialised. Instead, they signed Bruno Cheyrou, Paul Konchesky and *cough* Florent Sinama-Pongolle.
This season falls into the same mould. For all of their attacking intent, high-pressing and determination to represent the shirt with pride, Liverpool are once again nowhere near the Premier League title. But with the phenomenon of Mo Salah continuing to rise and a fantastic showing in this year’s Champions League, those three words are once again reverberating off the walls at Anfield. Maybe next year.
Well, it looks as though New Balance are also keen to look to the future, because they’ve unleashed Liverpool’s brand-new 2018/19 home kit. Launched while the Reds are in absolutely blistering form, this is a kit-release brimming with positivity and optimism. Just make sure nobody slips, lads.
The new design sticks with the gorgeous “Red Pepper” colourway that has proven so popular with fans this season. This deeper shade of red offers a beautiful retro look, harkening back to the great Liverpool teams of the past; while the linear stripes on the front are inspired by the architecture of Anfield’s Main Stand. Not too shabby at all.
Featuring a one-button collar, gorgeous white detailing and a prominent club crest, New Balance have conjured up an incredibly smart football kit that follows the traditions of the club. If you look at the nape of the neck, you’ll see a touching tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough Disaster, which is bound to invoke a certain sense of pride and responsibility to those that wear the shirt.
Of course, that sense of responsibility is hard to miss when you’ve got Jordan Henderson screaming at you for 90 minutes.
On the back of the shirt, there’s been a lovely update to the lettering and numbers. This new style mirrors the font used on the signs throughout Anfield and Liverpool City Centre, while the shirt number is displayed in a style inspired by the seat numbers within the stadium.
There’s no doubt about it, this is an incredibly smart football shirt indeed. The only question is: will we be hearing those three little words again before Christmas?
The new Liverpool football kits are due for release on Friday 11th May 2018, and you’ll be able to compare prices with FOOTY.COM soon after.
