Will they stay or will they go? We’re taking a look at some of the biggest potential transfers this January- and no, it’s not all about Alexis Sanchez.

Now the busy Christmas period is over and we’re back to one Premier League game a week, our attention has been turned to the thrill ride of the January transfer window. Halfway through the season, and with the Premier League table taking shape, now’s the perfect time to strengthen… and the perfect time for a panic buy or two. After Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham unexpectedly dropping into the relegation zone and a surge by in-form Burnley at the top, the table is finally starting to fit its usual format as the top-six battle for the four Champions League places; with City still holding a twelve-point lead at the top. Mind the gap everyone. We’ve seen a few high-profile signings already this window, mostly from the red half of Merseyside. Philippe Coutinho finally completed his dream move to Barcelona, whilst Virgil Van Dijk joined The Reds as the world’s most expensive defender at £75m. Jeez. Rumours still abound of some high-profile players close to switching allegiances, so let’s take a look at some of the players who could be on the move this January:

Alexis Sanchez

The Chilean looked set to join Manchester City in the summer, but after a breakdown in talks he stayed put at Arsenal. We thought we would see a move happen in January instead, with the player seemingly already having one foot out the door, making very few appearances for Arsenal this season.

With City announcing they have pulled out of the race to sign the winger, Manchester United – who joined the race to sign the player this month – look set to be the 29-year-old’s new suitors.

Andy Carroll

Fans still cringe at the £35m Liverpool paid for the current West Ham striker chosen to replace Fernando Torres after he left Merseyside. Few would have thought after his injury-ridden stint at West Ham that Antonio Conte’s reigning champions Chelsea would be chasing down the big target man. But it seems that may be the case.

West Ham are willing to listen to offers of around £20m for the former Newcastle striker, and it seems Chelsea have already contacted the London club about a move. David Moyes, on the other hand, has said little on the subject, and is focusing on buying, and not selling, in this transfer window.

Riyad Mahrez

The Leicester winger looked set for a move to France in the summer, but the Foxes managed to keep hold of their man. After losing Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante - two of their vital title-winning players - losing the Algerian too would have been devastating.

He has shone once again this season despite missing out on his dream move, and is now being linked to Arsenal and Liverpool. Two teams where this energetic and creative talent should surely flourish.
