Best 2016 boot concepts
We've taken a look back at the best concepts of 2016 and picked some of our favourites from a never ending pool of creative talent!
2016: The year in which concepts became reality, we have seen an explosion of talented creators applying their thoughts and ideas to a variety of boot ranges. In a year where some very creative people made their mark, here is FOOTY.COM's rundown of the best boot concepts from the last 12 months.
Black and Gold Mercurial
Black and Gold is an effortless colour combo, but the guys over at @mcew_football put a lot of effort into this and my word, it is stunning. Taking inspiration from the CR7 Rare Gold boot released in 2015 (limited to 333 pairs), they have applied it to the new Nike Mercurial Vapor XI and the result has left us astonished. If you'd like a pair, they were nice enough to make a tutorial video on how to make these beauts!
The Pirlo Pack
The Nike Tiempo Pirlo was one of the best releases of the year, paying tribute to one of the best players of all time. The Italian's love of wine inspired the Merlot colourway and the very creative crew over at Swoosh Customs decided the colourway and feel of the boot deserved to be transferred to the other Nike boot lines. Here we see the Mercurial Superfly V, Magista Obra II and Hypervenom Phantom II all getting the Merlot dipped colourway with a contrast white tick. Add the cork insole and you have a stunning concept that we think the man himself would be proud to wear.
Mercurial x Sharpie
Our friends over at Girls with Game love making new designs, but are one of the few who put their ideas into practice! Armed with a Sharpie pen and freehand talent, they've created this wonderful design on the Nike Mercurial to stand out from the crowd. Inspired by Polynesian culture and design, the girls got the Sharpies out and let their creative juices flow, bringing us this wonderful, beautiful and unique design to a great boot. We think if The Rock ever started playing football, he'd be asking the girls for a custom boot!
This year, adidas and Parley have joined forces to, "transform ocean plastic pollution into high performance sportswear, spinning the problem into a solution. The threat into a thread." The collaboration created some rare trainers in the form of the Ultraboost, but lumo723 decided to give the adidas PureControl the Parley treatment too. This clean concept applies subtle stitching to this laceless boot and produces possibly the best concept of the year.
Fantasy becomes reality
Back in July when adidas released the stunning Ace 16+ PureControl UltraBOOST trainer, we decided to switch things up and give it the predator treatment. We perhaps channelled the thoughts of the wider boot community into this concept colourway. We aren't saying it was our concept that made adidas bring them to life, their colourways are planned well in advance, but it's great to see adidas giving the community exactly what they love!
We can all agree 2016 has been a great year for concept creators, fans and design lovers, and we hope you enjoyed our run down or discovered someone new! Here is to making 2017 even better.
